Product Placement: If you were God, what car would
you drive?
Whilst watching Casino Royale last Friday evening my 7 year old
pointed to the well positioned Nokia on screen and blurted "Bloody
Hell! I wonder how much that cost!?". Shocked that he could
possibly know such words... as 'Product Placement' I pressed him
for more- (no, I wasn't shocked by the expletives, his mother
swears like a fishwife)
"So, what else do you know about how products appear in
movies?"
"Nothing Daddy"
"Oh, ok then."
"Except, that Rocky's Brother and trainer, spends all his hard
earned at Golden Palace casino, that if you want to kill
Transformers you have to use a Cisco powered HP computer and that
God drives a Saleen S7!
If you were God, what car would you drive Daddy?"

Product Placement hit the UK headline this year when ITV decided
that it would include PP as a legitimate way to raise ad sales
during programming similar to the US.

In game and movie PP advertising has been around for years.

Answering my sons question, I said that "If I were God I wouldn't
drive at all.. I'd just float about a bit" to which he replied,
"You would Daddy, YOU would!"
So how can you get your products into these media spaces? You need
to contact a PP ad specialist.

The imagination used for his characters is often inspired by real
events.
"Lazarus Lemming came about from a short holiday I spent in the
Norwegian Mountains. Returning from the top of one of the mountains
I felt something hit my boot, it was a real live lemming, then
later whilst recovering from falling and twisting my ankle on the
same mountain the idea of Lazarus Lemming sprang into his mind.

When I got home I designed the character and then got in contact
with his long time collaborator (writer) John Gatehouse. It was
about four years after that when we got the chance to develop the
character further for the Random House comic, The DFC."
Dave was given the chance to re-design and then draw Korky the Cat
for DC Thomson’s Dandy comic when he met various DC Thomson editors
at a Comics convention in Bristol.
"We were all on a children’s comics panel and I was able to show
them my samples after the panel had finished, I think I got the job
because they saw some of the drawings I had done of Sylvester the
cat for a Bugs Bunny Comic."

A fascinating but slightly odd new trend in games and sports
promotion is underwear and lingerie branding. Recently the Super
Mario corset made headlines and seemed to prove a big hit, at least
by web views.

And the idea has spread to sports. After Katy (I kisssed a girl)
Perry wore a West Ham Utd corset at a WHam party she attended, it
was so well received that the Marketing bods at West Ham ordered
some up for their sportswear shops and apparently added pants and
garters to the line.

Of all the marketing trends I've seen recently, this is certainly
one I'd ike to see catching on.
To whom it may concern, I would like to put my name down for the
first batch of Resident Evil boxershorts.
